Beach Body Through Body-Jet

Posted by admin

Someone once said “Old age isn’t bad when you consider the alternative.” So, in the struggle to retain a youthful appearance, many turn to anti-aging alternatives to hide those inevitable signs of age that creep up over time. The fight for a slim and trim physique proves to be more difficult the more we age, but advances in the aesthetic and cosmetics industry are reversing these struggles. The technology revolution has developed amazing techniques that can enable you to maintain a youthful look with little effort and discomfort while also being easier on the wallet.

Luckily, our newest procedure called Body-Jet is the most recent breakthrough in fat elimination. As weight gain inevitably creeps up, many turn to painful surgery to remove the fat which requires days of uncomfortable recovery. With Body-Jet, physicians are able remove fat in a similar way to liposuction, but with less downtime and discomfort, and faster recovery for the patient.

Performed under local anesthesia, Body-Jet is a water-assisted form of liposuction that is performed in-office. Developed to alleviate the customary side effects of surgical liposuction, Body-Jet can permanently remove fat cells from multiple areas of the body without causing trauma to other structures such as the blood vessels and nerves. The technique uses a fan shaped nozzle to transmit a pulsating water spray which gently loosens the fat cells from the connective tissue. The removed fat cells can then be used as an alternative to fillers and can also be used for grafting of the face, hands and natural augmentation of the breast.

Water-assisted liposuction has proved to be far superior to traditional liposuction due to factors such as reduced session length, less discomfort and side effects and shorter recovery times. In comparison, Body-Jet avoids the problems associated with tumescent infiltration used in standard liposuction procedures. Tumescent infiltration causes tissue swelling which lowers operative accuracy and can result in serious side effects. Patients can often go about their daily routines as soon as the treatment is complete.

Aside from creating a slimmer, more sculpted figure, the fat that is removed from problem areas can then be reused in areas such as the face, hands and breasts. Natural breast augmentation is a process which injects the removed fat cells into the breast area to create a natural, fuller look without the pain and downtime typically linked to breast augmentation. Now a viable alternative to breast implants, this alone is one of the medical breakthroughs associated with this new technology. Clients are much more open to using their own tissue versus saline or gel implants.

Amazingly enough, technology never ceases to amaze us as newer, safer and more advanced procedures arrive on the market. Water-assisted liposuction, often called water lipo or H2O lipo, has dramatically changed the way many Americans look at body sculpting. And in today’s fast-paced climate, time saving and natural alternatives are highly sought after. Advances in non-invasive and minimally invasive procedures have proven to be an effective way to maintain a youthful appearance and eliminate the signs of aging.

For us, the answer is simple. Be fit, be natural and be beautiful.

Atlanta Team “Poppy’s Bocce” Wins 4th Annual Fall Bocce Tournament

Posted by admin

The fourth annual Fall Bocce Ball Tournament, which took place over the holidays brought in the largest crowd the event has ever seen since it begin four years ago. Organized by Steven Weiner, MD of The Aesthetic Clinique and Rosemary Beach resident, A. Bergdorf, the tournament kicked off this year with a whopping 124 players who battled to win another season of bragging rights and numerous grand prize gifts.

With a two season winning record, team Botocci and Alleys, consisting of Dr. Weiner and Dave Raschkoub of Bud & Alleys finally gave up the winning title to Atlanta’s Poppy’s Bocce team, Greg Camia and Mark Schoppmann. Named in honor of Michael DiPinto, a.k.a. “The Silver Streaker”, a former bocce contestant who recently passed away on December 1, the team gave their best in recognition of one of the tournament’s most valued players. Practicing year round for this tournament, the team entered Rosemary Beach for the third year in a row to try their hand at the winning title. This year, their efforts paid off.

“It was an overwhelming turnout and the games were exciting as always,” says Dr. Weiner. “Unfortunately, you can’t win them all,” he added.

The reigning champions made a grand entrance on their shining carriage, which was really a golf cart, into the town of Rosemary Beach with music, crowns and waves of glory. Next year, the new winners, Camia and Schoppman, will have the honors to gloat in their win and come blazing down the streets.

As is tradition, the tournament kicked off with the raising of the Italian flag while the national Italian anthem played in the background. This season, the event had over 60 teams and over 120 players, all with families and friends in tow. Cheers and applause were heard throughout as teams worked their way through the elimination rounds and on to finals. Although Team Botocci and Alleys were the ones to beat, Camia and Schoppman made this trip worth their while as they came out ahead in the final round to win the infamous title.

“We practice all year for this. It is our third year in the tournament and I’m glad to say we can finally go home with our heads held high,” says Camia,” he said.

Bombora Sun & Surf was this year’s premier sponsor for the fall bocce ball event. In addition, several local businesses also participated. This season’s sponsors included Bombora Sun & Surf, 30A.com, The Aesthetic Clinique, Salon Twist, La Botana, Bud & Alley’s Pizza Bar, Patchouli’s, Restaurant Paradis, Cowgirl Kitchen, The Fabric Source, 30A Television, SouthWaltonScene.com, Moonpize, Sugar Shak, Wild Olives, YOLO, Summer Kitchen, Quick & Clean Car Wash, and Think It Wear It Express.

Two bocce tournaments are held each year, with the spring tournament taking place the Saturday before Easter and the fall tournament taking place the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Each event has grown in popularity and participants. Has Your Skin Reached it’s “Tipping Point”?

Posted by admin

Tipping Point

Malcolm Gladwell put it best when he published a book explaining the “tipping point” as the phenomenon of change that – for some undeniable reason – takes place all of a sudden and quite unexpectedly. The idea that noticeable change seems to happen almost at once thus taking us in a direction unplanned, unrealized, and for the most part, placing us in uncharted territory. Such is the case with our skin. As the largest organ in our body, it is indeed a life force all its own. In our 20s, skin is taut, supple, resilient and ready to bounce back. However, once in your 30s, there is less resilience, the subtle appearance of lines, and the beginning stages of sagging start to settle in.

Inevitably, certain factors can lead to faster aging of the skin such as smoking, sun tanning, and alcohol; however clinical studies are now showing that aside from environmental reasons, skin does reach a tipping point – the point where the skin shows a greater and more rapid deterioration of pigments, volume and elasticity. A recent study conducted by P&G Beauty and Grooming confirms a distinct difference in skin from those in their 20s versus the skin of those in their mid-30s. In fact, the mean age of regression was estimated at the age of 35.09 which indicates a clear “skin tipping point” at which point there is a precipitous drop in the skin’s elastic tolerance.  After confirming these studies, researchers conducted another trial to evaluate certain anti-aging ingredients which improve skin elasticity. Findings showed that specific topical agents, such as olive oil, can delay the unwanted signs of aging and prolong a youthful complexion.

According to Dr. Steven Weiner at the Aesthetic Clinique, one of the hot issues in skin science is oxygen free radicals.  It appears that the environmental oxidative stressors overwhelm the body’s ability to keep up at the tipping point.  We then start to lose the battle of collagen formation versus degradation, as well as lose elasticity.

“You don’t have to throw in the towel when you reach 35,” says Dr. Weiner “We have several treatments to directly fight the oxygen free radicals such as GliSODin Skin Nutrients, Retin A, and Revale Skin with Coffee Berry.  There are also treatments to replace the loss of collagen and elastin such as Fraxel re:pair, Fraxel re:store Dual, Thermage, and dermal fillers that stimulate collagen such as Radiesse and Sculptra, and to a lesser extent Restylane and Juvederm,” he added.

When it comes to genetics, there is definitely a role that inherent genes take in helping or hindering us to age gracefully, but external circumstances – our environment – plays just as important in the grand scheme of overall youth and long-lasting luminous skin. Contrary to popular belief, celebrities, models and fashionistas face the same problems. But today’s consumers can mimic these media idols through proper care and proactive techniques.

One such product offered at the Aesthetic Clinique is GliSODin® Skin Nutrients which is shown to maintain skin elasticity. Formulated by dermatologists and nutritionists to provide powerful antioxidants and bioactive nutraceuticals, GliSODin® promotes enhanced and longer lasting results from medical aesthetic treatments and beauty programs. GliSODin® is a unique melon extract naturally rich in superoxide dismutase (SOD), combined with wheat protein to protect its SOD activity within the intestinal cells. SOD, also known as the “Enzyme of Life”, catalyzes the natural antioxidant defense system, boosts immunity, and reduces the rapid signs of aging. The production of SOD decreases with age, causing an increase in susceptibility to free radical damage.

Thermage® is a completely non-invasive treatment that tightens the skin.  By heating up the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, it promotes collagen formation to provide the improvement.  It takes roughly six months to fully form the collagen and appreciate the full results, which can last three to five years.  In addition, there is no downtime and the treatment can be performed on all skin types.  The newest version, Thermage® CPT, has proven to be even more effective and comfortable than prior models.

Fraxel® re:store Dual and the Fraxel® re:pair are fractional lasers which tighten wrinkles and loose skin by penetrating the skin microscopically to stimulate collagen.  The safety and rapid healing from these lasers is related to their “fractional” component, affecting only a fraction of the skin to which they are applied.  The Fraxel® re:store Dual is the newest of the two lasers, which offer several improvements:  more comfort, less treatments, and an additional laser wavelength for pigmentation.  Social downtime from the Dual is only up to a few days.  On the other hand, the Fraxel re:pair is an aggressive fractional CO2 laser for people desiring one treatment and more serious correction, but has approximately seven days of downtime.  Both lasers are effective in assisting those who have reached the “tipping point”.

No matter your age, your lifestyle, or your daily activities, there are innovative treatments available at the Aesthetic Clinique which can be individualized whether you have reached your skin’s “tipping point” or are approaching it. Going under the knife is not the only option anymore.  Non-invasive procedures are rapidly growing in popularity due to lifestyle demands but also refinements in devices and techniques which are leading to longer lasting and natural results.

Accutane is gone, now what do you use for Acne??

Posted by admin

The makers of Accutane, Roche AG, recently pulled this drug from the market citing economic and safety reasons.  In reality, there have been several judgments and several pending lawsuits against the company regarding side effects from the drug.  Unfortunately, for the severe acne sufferer, this eliminates a very effective (but with side effects) treatment for acne.  So what is a good alternative to Accutane, which is safer and nearly as effective?  It’s Levulan.  Levulan is a photosensitizer of the skin.  It is applied to the skin and then activated by light.  It is absorbed by sebaceous glands – the ones that are overactive in acne patients.  The result is that the sebaceous gland is partially destroyed, leading to less secretions and less acne.  The light which activates the Levulan also kills the bacteria that cause acne as well.  The results after 2 or 3 treatments is 75-85% improvement in acne for 9 months, and in some patients up to several years.

Although Levulan is not FDA approved for acne, it is widely used by the medical community worldwide for this purpose.  Its FDA approval is for Actinic Keratosis, pre malignant lesions, on the skin.  The procedure process involves cleaning the skin thoroughly, then applying the Levulan.  It lies on the skin for about an hour and then washed off.  The patient then sits under a blue light to activate the Levulan for about 15 minutes.  After activation, the patient must protect his face from bright light and sunlight for the 24-36 hours.  This means staying indoors, curtains closed, in a dimly lit room.  During this time, the skin becomes red and begins to peel for the next few days.  Follow up treatments are done about 3-4 weeks.

The Aesthetic Clinique offers Levulan treatments with Blu U light activation.  Give us a call for an evaluation or treatment.  850.622.1214

Fraxel re:store Dual Just FDA Approved is now available at the Aesthetic Clinique

Dr. Weiner and his staff are proud to be the first medical facility to offer the Fraxel re:store Dual in all of Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee and one of the first 5 facilities in the country. Fraxel® re:store Dual is a fractional laser which tightens wrinkles and loose skin by penetrating the skin microscopically to stimulate collagen.

This laser is used to treat wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, and pigment irregularity on large areas of the body. The safety and rapid healing from Fraxel® re:store Dual is related to its “fractional” component, which means it affects only the fraction of the skin to which it is applied.

The Fraxel® re:store Dual is an upgrade to the already existing Fraxel® re:store and offers several improvements:  more comfort, less treatments, and an additional laser wavelength for ground breaking pigmentation removal.  Social downtime from the Dual is only up to a few days.  The FDA approved the Fraxel re:store Dual on October 14, 2009.

An Upgraded Thermage® Laser with Added Comfort and is now available on the Emerald Coast

Posted by admin

Aesthetic Clinique now offers Thermage® Comfort Pulse Technology (CPT) and is one of the first ten in the country to have this innovative system. Thermage® is a completely non-invasive treatment that tightens the skin.  By heating up the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, it promotes collagen formation to provide the improvement. Over time, sagging or wrinkled skin is replaced with smoother, tighter skin; improved tone and texture; and an overall younger looking appearance. It takes roughly six months to fully form the collagen and appreciate the full results, which can last three to five years.

In addition, there is no downtime and the treatment can be performed on all skin types.  The newest version, Thermage® CPT (Comfort Pulse Technology), has proven to be even more effective and more comfortable than prior models. During the procedure, a handheld device is pressed against your skin to safely deliver heat to the inner layers, at the same time cooling the surface of the skin. Each time the device touches your skin, you’ll feel a brief cooling sensation, followed by a deep but brief heating sensation, followed by another cooling sensation. The heating sensation is a sign that the deep layers of your skin are reaching effective temperatures for tightening.

The Thermage CPT has added vibration to the head of the handpiece to assist in comfort measures.  It allows for higher energy levels and therefore, more effective treatments.  The heating aspect is more concentrated which also leads to better results.  Most people resume regular activities immediately after treatment. There’s no recovery time or special follow-up care.

GentleWaves: A Solution for Smoother Skin

Posted by admin

Say goodbye to fine lines and wrinkles and hello to GentleWaves, offered at Aesthetic Clinique. GentleWaves is a non-invasive treatment that uses a low-intensity light therapy to increase collagen production while decreasing the effect of enzymes that cause aging.

GentleWaves was introduced in 2003 by Light BioScience® and is the first FDA-cleared Light Emitting Diode (LED) system for the treatment of the eye wrinkles. GentleWaves can also reduce pore size and regulate pigmentation like freckles and treat sun damaged skin.

GentleWaves is so popular because it does not cause any pain, redness, peeling or side effects. Plus, the treatment only takes 40 seconds, so you can be on your way in no time! Results are gradually seen, but increase with time after each session. For the best results, a series of weekly or twice a week treatments is recommended for a total of 10 treatments. These treatments should be followed up with touch-ups every 6-8 weeks.

Here is a client testimonial from GentleWaves.com:

Nancy A., Baltimore, MD, Age: 52 years, personal fitness trainer

“After several weekly treatments with GentleWaves®, I can see a subtle difference in the texture of my skin. I notice my skin feels smoother, the tiny wrinkles are gone, the sun damage and discoloration on the sides of my face look better, and I don’t have to wear foundation make-up.”

“I didn’t appreciate the total improvement in my appearance until I stopped treatment. It’s like exercising — you don’t realize the toning benefits until you stop.”

“I would recommend GentleWaves® treatment to anyone who doesn’t want the pain or inconvenience of other cosmetic procedures. But you can’t expect instant gratification – it’s a slow, overall benefit.”

SunSoul Sunware – Use Nature’s Beneficial Wavelengths to Nourish Your Skin

Posted by admin

SunSoul, a Canadian-based company, has developed clothing that delivers beneficial wavelengths of sunlight to skin while significantly reducing harmful ultraviolet radiation. By borrowing beneficial light from nature, SunSoul Sunware sends nourishing light directly to the skin. Aesthetic Clinique brings its clients this healthful product line to help them transform the effects of the sun’s rays during a day on the beach.

High-intensity blue light is used to treat and prevents acne breakouts, and yellow light is used to reduce skin damage. The company’s two lines of clothing, Blumöd for acne aid and Yelomöd for skin rejuvenation, use microfiber fabric designed to block and convert the sun’s harmful rays while magnifying healthy sections of the light spectrum. To top it all off, the clothing delivers an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of 50+, offering protection from harmful rays.

How do yellow and blue lights help my skin?

Yellow Light – Yellow light rejuvenates skin by bringing out youthful radiance and reversing the aging process. Yellow light is naturally attracted to red and brown pigments called chromophores. Red pigments are the pesky red and blue blood vessels as well as the redness that develops on skin with aging and sun damage. The brown pigments in the skin are excess melanin, also the result of sun damage and aging skin.

Blue Light – Blue light is proven to be effective in eradicating acne causing bacteria. Blue light interacts with porphyrin from the bacteria as well as naturally occurring oxygen to produce singlet oxygen, which is lethal to the bacteria.

How long do these products take to work?

The average dose of sunlight to manage acne and rejuvenate the skin is about 2 hours per week in the sun wearing the Blumöd and Yelomöd products – this exposure will deliver about the same dose of light one would receive in a dermatologist’s office from a light device.

Try these fabulous and natural skin treatments while carrying on with daily life in the great outdoors or on the beach! Check out Rachel Ray’s recent talk show clip on SunSoul Sunware.
